The English Department at Wilmington High School is committed to the presentation of materials and skills that empower the students to construct and convey meaning in everyday life. The core of the program reflects the concepts advocated by the Massachusetts Common Core of Learning and the English/Language Arts Framework. In response to this framework recommended by the state, the English Department at Wilmington High School presents challenging opportunities for all students to be lifelong learners. The Wilmington High School graduate will read critically from a wide range of literature, write effectively for a variety of audiences and purposes, and speak effectively in informal and formal situations. A required summer reading program and additional summer assignments for students enrolled in Honors courses enrich and complement the analytical skills and the study of literature covered in our curriculum. Courses are offered through the English Department as a means to assist students in meeting performance standards which have been designated for stated expectations of student learning.
